Personal, Social & Health Education (PSHE)

Our philosophy & culture

At Priors Field we follow the ‘Kapow’ RSE and PSHE curriculum, alongside our school’s own Vision and values. It gives the children the knowledge, skills and attitudes that they will need to effectively navigate the complexities of life in the 21st Century. The curriculum covers key areas which will support children to make informed choices now and in the future around their heath, safety, wellbeing, relationships and financial matters and will support them in becoming confident individuals and active members of society.

The ‘Kapow’ scheme also covers wider PSHE learning, in line with the N.C. requirement that ‘schools should make provision for personal, social, health and economic education.’ It also provides for the four fundamental British values which reflect life in modern Britain: democracy; rule of law; respect and tolerance and individual liberty.

A parental curriculum over view guide is available here.

Relationships, Sex & Health Education (RSHE)

We really value our home school partnership in our delivery of the RSE curriculum. Please click here to read the slides explaining our RSE curriculum for parents and carers. Each area is revisited to build on prior learning and sex education has been included, in line with DfE recommendations, and is covered in Year 6 of our scheme.

Our curriculum supports the requirements of the Equality Act, for example, learning about different families, the negative effect of stereotypes and celebrating differences, in addition to the inclusion of diverse teaching resources.

Taking Care Project

We deliver our Protective Behaviours scheme in the Autumn Term over a series of 4 lessons and revisit throughout the year. This is an essential part of our curriculum, empowering children with the knowledge, skills and vocabulary to keep themselves safe and to take care of themselves. This starts in reception and is taught in every year group, building progressively on prior learning.
