Priors Field Primary School

German Christmas Traditions

As part of our rich cultural learning at school, Priors Field celebrated German Christmas history and traditions. Germany is credited with introducing the Christmas tree tradition. Each class decorated their own Christmas tree. Children made them shine with a taste of German language as they learnt short phrases, greetings and numbers to 10, colours, family members and animals. All the Christmas trees will be displayed later in the hall for everyone to see. We have also welcomed a student, Julia Flaemig, from Germany this week who has made today extra special by sharing her experience with us, reading a story "The very Hungry Caterpillar" in both English and German and teaching children German language. Thank you to everyone who brought German artefacts, traditional dress and books to create a memorable time.
